VIETNAM VISA FOR FOREIGNERS: DEFINITION AND LATEST REGULATIONS 2026

Pursuant to Clause 11, Article 3 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam 2014, a visa for foreigners (thị thực) is a document issued by competent Vietnamese authorities that permits a foreign national to enter and reside in Vietnam for a specific period.

With the enactment of Law Amending and Supplementing a Number of Articles of the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Foreigners’ Entry into, Exit from, Transit through, and Residence in Vietnam 2023 , Vietnam’s visa policy has undergone significant administrative reforms. Most notably, the expansion of the Electronic Visa (E-visa) to citizens of all countries and territories, with a validity of up to 90 days for multiple entries. This update not only promotes tourism but also facilitates international investors and experts to work flexibly in Vietnam.

Conditions and Categories of Vietnam Visa for Foreigners

To ensure a seamless application process, both the foreign national and the sponsoring entity in Vietnam must strictly adhere to the conditions stipulated in Article 10 of the Law on Entry and Exit 2014 (amended in 2019 and 2023):
